Jacqui Smith MP
Secretary of State for the Home Department
Jacqui Smith was appointed Home Secretary in June 2007, as part of Gordon Brown's first Cabinet. She was previously Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury and Chief Whip. Ms Smith grew up in Malvern, Worcestershire before moving to Redditch in 1986. She still lives in Redditch with husband, Richard and sons James and Michael. Since becoming an MP in 1997, Jacqui has served on the Treasury Select Committee and was promoted to Government in 1999. In June 2003, she was apppointed as Minister of State at the Department of Trade and Industy with responsibility for Industry and the Regions. Jacqui was also Deputy Minister for Women and Equality. In 2005, Jacqui was appointed Minister for Schools at the Department for Education and Skills.
