Copyright Infringement Claim Email Scam

“Hi!
My name is ****.
Your website or a website that your company hosts is infringing on a copyright-protected images owned by myself.”

I received a genuine looking copyright infringement email via a form on one of my websites last week telling me I was infringing on someone’s copyright by using one of their images on one of my websites.

The thing that rang bells was, there was no contact details on the email other than a name and email.

It had a link on it saying “Download it now and check this out for yourself:” which I didn’t click and just put the email to one side.

I wasn’t 100% sure if it was a scam or someone just made a mistake until this morning.

I just received an identical message from a similar Hotmail address but a different persons name.

I don’t normally warn about these things but this one was so convincing, if it is a phishing attempt it is going to catch a lot of people out.

I’m really tempted to click the links, but as they say curiosity kills the cat – be careful if you get an email like this.

Let me know in the comments below if you received a copyright infringement email and if you clicked the link, where did it take you?
