Our dedicated team of Mad Scientists all have experience working with children both in schools and in less formal surroundings such as parties. They are all DBS checked and trained to a high standard and will ensure the kids have a great time. We offer 3 main types of party: 1. 'SCIENCE BLAST' Party! The SCIENCE BLAST PARTY is a high paced, extremely visual and interactive science show which lasts for ONE HOUR. This party is for groups of up to 40 children (Children over 5 yrs). A SCIENCE BLAST PARTY will spark your children's imagination and curiosity in the world of science and uncover spectacular aspects of the world around us. Wherever possible we will use volunteers to assist with experiments. This fantastic one hour show will also include a super take-home gift and will always finish with an exciting Mad Science finale! It is an hour of fabulous non-stop fun! 2. 'MEGA SCIENCE LAB' Party! The MEGA SCIENCE LAB is our interactive and hugely hands-on party for groups of less than 20 children (Children over 5 yrs). The MEGA SCIENCE LAB lasts for TWO HOURS with a break in the middle for your party food. The Mad Scientist will start with some exciting experiments, using volunteers where appropriate, with a special focus on the birthday child. Every child will explore the world of chemistry and make something in our 'Mad Science Chemistry workshop' to take home with them. After a short break to re-fuel, the children will explore more chemistry or physics and receive a second scientific take-home gift! The party will end with some of our favourite experiments which will be extremely visual and send everyone home buzzing with superb science! PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THE INTERACTIVE NATURE OF THE MEGA SCIENCE LAB PARTY THE NUMBERS ARE STRICTLY LIMITED TO A MAXIMUM 20 CHILDREN. 3. 'SCIENCE LAB' Party! What do children do at a Mad Science birthday party? A. During the first 45-50 minutes the Mad Scientist will engage the children with amazing science demonstrations that are conducted with the help of your birthday child/children and guests. Some examples of experiments that may be included are: seeing flash paper disappear, mixing chemicals together to inflate a balloon, using air bazookas to blow out candles, using a plasma ball to create a human light bulb and many more. Depending on the party they may also make slime or silly putty to take home. Q. How far in advance do I have to book my party? A. Our party schedule fills up quickly. We suggest you book well in advance to get the date and time you want. Generally at least 4-6 weeks in advance is recommended. Q. What do I do to make a reservation? A. Email us or call 01992 618094 to make a provisional booking. This provisional booking can be held for 2 weeks and will be confirmed on receipt of your completed booking form and deposit of £80.00. Q. How do I confirm my booking? A. You can fill out the online booking form via our website and either post it to the address on the booking form or email it to us! Q. How can I pay my deposit? A. You can pay your deposit by cheque (made payable to Kidscience Ltd), call us and pay by debit or credit card, or via BACS on request of our account information. Unfortunately we do not accept American Express Cards and there is a 4% surcharge for credit cards. Q. What time can I have my party? A. For our 2-hour Mega Science Lab party the available times are: 11:00am or 3:00pm. For our 1-hour Science Lab and Science Blast parties the available times are: 11:30am, 2:00pm and 4:30pm. All these times are available on Saturdays and Sundays. All dates and times are subject to availability. Q. What if I would like my party at a different time? A. For all parties that take place outside our offered times and on bank holidays there is a surcharge of £50. All dates and times are subject to availability. Q. Are there any other costs? A. Mileage costs of £0.45 per mile are charged for any party taking place more than 15 miles from the nearest local office. These are: for London W5 5RG and for Essex CM16 6AA and for Cambridgeshire CB21 5BS. Parking charges (including metered parking) are also payable by you. We will always look to find the nearest office to you to keep these costs to a minimum. Q. Do I need to know the exact number of children attending my party to book it? A. No. All we need is an estimate of the number of children attending. We ask that you plan for the largest number of children expected. We ask you to confirm how many children you have coming when we call to confirm your party the week before it takes place. Q. When will the Mad Scientist arrive? A. The Mad Scientist will arrive 15-20 minutes before the start of your party to unload their equipment and get set up so they are ready to begin on time. It is best to ask your guests to arrive 10-15 minutes before the start time of your party to ensure your party starts on time. Q. What kind of space is needed? A. The Mad Scientist will need a small table to put their equipment on. We ask that you have enough room for the Mad Scientist and your guests to be comfortable. The children can be sat at on the floor or on chairs a few feet back from the table, so all can see. Q. Is there anything else the Mad Scientist will need? A. The Mad Scientist will bring all their equipment with them but will need access to power and water. Water does not have to be in the same room as the presentation. Please let us know if your party venue does not have either of these. Q. Can I make any changes to my party once it has been confirmed? A. Changes may be made if enough notice is given. Please note that due to operational constraints we may not be able to accommodate all changes but will discuss this with you at the time. Q. Is it OK to have other activities going on while the Mad Scientist is performing? A. It is advisable not to have other activities going on whilst the Mad Scientist is performing. For our 2-hour Mega Science Lab party the Mad Scientist will discuss when you would like to break for food when they arrive. Q. Can I have the phone number of my Mad Scientist? A. Our Mad Scientists use personal mobile phones at weekends for emergencies only. If we have permission we will advise you of this emergency contact number. If you would like the Mad Scientist to contact you on the day of your party we can request that they do so. Q. For what ages are your parties appropriate? A. Our parties are appropriate for children aged between 5 and 11 years. Younger siblings are welcome to watch but do not actively take part. Q. When do I pay? A. We require a non refundable deposit of £80.00 to confirm your booking. You will receive a call the week before your party to confirm all the details and to collect the outstanding balance. If at any time the instructor deems that the behaviour of one or more children, adults or other children present, is likely to cause danger or disruption, the instructor can reasonably request they are controlled or removed or noise levels are reduced and, if this doesn't happen, cease the presentation until the situation is resolved or terminate the presentation with no recourse to refund. In the event that the child, or any of the guests, have already seen a Mad Science party it is advisable to let us know the host and date of that party. Mad Science provides much of its programming in schools both in the classroom, at assemblies and in After School Clubs. Children who have attended any of these programmes will realise that the Birthday Parties are higher octane whilst still providing enquiry based learning and fun.
