Carla Radford MSTAT is a Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique qualified Alexander Technique teacher. She has a great deal of experience in teaching people from a range of backgrounds and in various occupations to identify harmful physical and mental habits that they have developed throughout their lives, eliminate them and in doing so release unwanted muscular tension that can cause health problems. The Alexander Technique was developed by F.M. Alexander, an actor and recitalist born in Tasmania in 1869. Alexander suffered problems with hoarseness whilst performing and because doctors failed to find a cause, he decided to follow his own course of action. He observed himself with mirrors and discovered that his vocal problems were down to poor posture and then he set about improving his posture so that his voice improved. Alexander developed his self-supporting system over the following eight years and this is now known as the Alexander Technique.
