I also offer a low cost counselling service for those who are unemployed or on a low income. Further Information Why Choose Psychodynamic Counselling? In order for someone to make a long lasting change, one needs to have an insight and understanding of what has caused the initial problem in the first place. An issue that is causing you pain and angst in the present may well have its roots in the past, although the individual may not be aware of the particular connection. Psychodynamic counselling can help one uncover these hidden links, thus allowing the individual a greater freedom of thoughts. It is about exploring thoughts and feelings freely, becoming more aware of issues affecting ones life and enabling a person to make beneficial changes to his or her life. How it works You are given the space to talk openly about about whatever might be troubling you or feels most important - this may be thoughts, dreams, feelings, relationship concerns or events that have occurred in recent weeks that have had an impact on you. Together we will work to help you gain a deeper understanding of the possible causes and affects of such thoughts and feelings. Counselling may enable you to gain an insight in to aspects of the self that were previously unknown and will therefore allow you to see how these are affecting the present - perhaps finding ways of doing things differently as a result. The Session The session will be 50 minutes on the same day at the same time each week. The frequency of the session is essential and beneficial to the work, so regular attendance to counselling is a commitment. Confidentiality All that you speak of during the sessions will be kept highly confidential. Making The First Appointment If you are interested and feel you might benefit from the opportunity to be in counselling, then please get in touch via the contact page. The initial appointment will be an assessment whereby you can think about what you might want from counselling before deciding to go further and this usually lasts between 60 - 90 minutes. In the assessment, there is a chance for us to talk about that issues that are of concern to you and how being in counselling might benefit you. It''s in this meeting that we will decide on a convenient time and day for you to attend the sessions on a regular basis
