Registering a Domain Name Do’s and Don’ts

Don’t think it is clever to use someone else’s registered Trademark in your domain name.
Stellios will be down on you like a ton of bricks if you register easyflightbookings.co.uk and Geoffrey wont be too impressed with pedalcarsrus.co.uk

Don’t use too many hyphens in your domain because you have been told Google likes EMD’s.
www.cheap-plastic-blue-and-red-widgets.co.uk

Don’t use a domain that is similar to another established business in the same field and location as you.
Daveswindowcleaning.co.uk, daveswindowcleaners.co.uk
You may not have any problem, but is it really worth the risk?

Don’t go posting on public forums about the great domain that you have seen is still available.
If you find the ideal domain name is still available don’t go asking for opinions in public forums on whether you should register it or not as you may find the next time you go and look it may not be available anymore.

Don’t ask your developer or host to register your domain
Create your own account at a reputable domain registrar and ensure you register the domain in your own name and use your own email address in the contact section.
