School of Professional Development and Education
New Southgate, London, N11 1GN
The school has, at its core, a mission to offer an effective platform in which to lead in the development and promotion of individuals. We provide Initial Teacher Training qualifications to people interested in teaching and training education. We provide a Level 3 Award (Formerly known as PTLLS) for people with no formal qualifications or those who wish to gain an understanding of teaching and training in light of progressing into teaching or being a trainer. This is a fully qualified and certified course through the highly held awarding body of City & Guilds, and is taught over 5 days with time to complete set coursework with guidance and support. The AET qualification is suitable for: Candidates who would like to work as teachers/trainers in the further education and skills sector. Candidates who have not completed an undergraduate degree (or equivalent). Candidates who are currently working in any industry e.g beauticians, plumbers, carers etc. Entry requirements for AET (Formerly known as PTLLS): Candidates must be 19+. The ability to read and interpret written tasks, and to write in an academic style. Candidates will also need to organise their work and supporting materials clearly and coherently. Whilst there are no formal entry requirements for the AET, the nature of both the theory and practical assessments which the candidates need to achieve for the AET, are such that they will need good written and spoken English. The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (Formerly known as DTLLS) is equivalent to the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), and on completion of the course you can apply for your qualified teacher status (QTLS). In order to gain full teaching status, you need to complete an ITT (Initial Teacher Training) programme alongside work based experience, either through a PGCE or DET, both of which enable the full QTS/QTLS. The PGCE route is often difficult for those already in education as time is limited, so our City and Guilds Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programme involves just one day per week, which means you can continue to work or juggle your existing commitments around it. You would be expected to attend a lesson one day a week for a year, alongside completing 100hours of teaching experience of sort throughout the year. We help you secure and find work experience placements and paid work experience placements where possible. The DET qualification is suitable for: Candidates who have completed a recognised undergraduate degree. Candidates who work or would like to work as teachers/trainers in the education and skills sector. Candidates who have just started a teacher/training work-based role. Teachers/trainers who are seeking career progression in their area of work. Candidates who work with their learners on a one-to-one basis. Candidates who teach within industry such as nurses, carers and educational professionals. Candidates who are assessors and wish to achieve a teaching/training qualification. Candidates progressing from Level 3 or 4 qualifications. Entry requirements for DET Candidates must be 19+. Candidates wishing to undertake the DET programme must be experienced or qualified in the subject area/areas they wish to teach at the appropriate level. Candidates must have access to 100 hours of teaching/training practice. Additionally, due to the nature of both the theory and practical assessments, candidates will need good written and spoken English, i.e. the ability to read and interpret written tasks, and to write in an academic style. Candidates will also need to organise their work and supporting materials clearly and coherently. All candidates will require: Literacy and Numeracy level 2. (Overseas students should demonstrate IELTS 6.5 or higher) or working towards a level 2 by the end of the end of the course.
