Free Spirit Therapeutic Services offer Play Therapy for children aged 3- 11 years, working directly with families who are struggling with their child's emotional/ behavioural problems at home or/ and school. Free Spirit Therapeutic Services recognise that on occasion, extra emotional support may be required for children and their families. I provide a confidential and high quality service offering therapeutic support for individuals and groups. I aim to meet the emotional needs of children and to help them cope with upsetting and painful feelings to enable them to reach forward with renewed confidence and strength. Children are naturally comfortable with play with a spontaneous ability to choose and pick up toys with ease. Children express themselves more fully and more directly through play without the need to communicate their feelings verbally. Our children can be faced with many types of challenges within their young lives that have a direct impact upon their feelings leaving them confused, frightened or anxious showing an inability to cope. Each child will manage their feelings differently, although when children are trying to cope with strong upsetting feelings, it can cause disruption for them and others closest to them. Play Therapy provide an opportunity for children to explore their feelings and play out their worries, fears or helplessness safely and freely with the therapist. As an extension of play therapy, Free Spirit Therapeutic Services provide an attachment based programme to parents/carers called Filial Play Coaching. This offers a unique opportunity for the parent/carer and their child to reconnect and strengthen their relationship and communication with one another. This programme can be used to help children under the age of 3 years as well as children aged 3-11 years.
