Statement of Belief When we are born we have no notion of what awaits us. Sometimes we can feel ill equipped to overcome what life seems to throw at us. Life can get us down and we don’t know who to turn to. As a Humanistic Counsellor I offer you a space where you will be heard, valued and accepted as a unique human being. My desire is to journey with you and to help you search for a way of living that is meaningful to you. Why do our relationships always seem to be chaotic or follow the same predictable patterns? For some of us this can be the way we have learnt to behave or assume is customary. For others, unresolved trauma can account for the problems we experience in adult life. For survivors of childhood incest and sexual abuse this is compounded by secrecy, shame and fear. Our childhood can cast a long shadow for many reasons and we can work together to find a new and rewarding way of relating. For survivors, refusing to deny the truth any longer is ultimately the way out of the hidden pain of the past. This will take courage and commitment and I welcome the opportunity to be a steadfast companion with you as you find healing and hope for the future. I offer short or long-term counselling to suit your needs. With trauma I advise longer-term counselling. Be encouraged. You are not a problem; the problem is the problem. Experience I work with Anxiety and Depression, Bereavement and Loss, Crisis pregnancy and miscarriage, Dissociation, Existential concerns, Incest and Sexual Abuse, , Rape, Relationship and family concerns. I am also a volunteer Counsellor with Survivors’ Network Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre in Brighton. Qualifications and training Masters level Post Graduate Diploma in Humanistic Therapeutic Counselling Cruse training certificate in Bereavement and Loss Care Confidential training certificate in Crisis Pregnancy The Journey training certificate in Post Abortion Stress Fees I offer a free 35 minute introductory session to help you decide if you would like us to work together. A one-to-one counselling session is charged at £35. Each session will last 50 minutes and ideally will take place at the same time each week. Home visits are possible if appropriate. A couples counselling session is charged at £45. I offer a concessionary rate of £25 for trainee Counsellors Payment is usually by cash at the end of each session. Additional information As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I adhere to their policy of accountable and ethical practice. I have a personal Christian faith and if called upon I work within a framework of biblical teaching.

metonoya
Brighton, East Sussex, BN1 3FD
Metonoya is a confidential counseling service offering both in depth - open ended and focused - time-limited counseling/psychotherapy to individuals and focused anger management days for small groups within a central Brighton location. The name metonoya is derived from the word ‘metanoia’ meaning “change in one’s way of life” and from the Greek word metanoein - “to change one’s mind”. The spelling was adapted to metonoya as we believe that the outcome of therapy (metonoya) is equal to the sum of its parts (me to no ya), encapsulating how therapy works. As a service provider we offer understanding and respect, alongside our commitment to supporting you to explore issues that are important to you, supporting you to develop your own awareness and insights into possible solutions through the therapeutic relationship (me to no ya). As a provider of Humanistic Person Centred counseling and psychotherapy we stress the potential value and goodness of human beings and believe that individuals are able to make choices and to change the direction of their life (metanoia).
